About the position

Under the supervision of the Dental Director, the Dental Hygienist is responsible for rendering oral health services, promulgating preventative dental services, and providing oral health education to dental patients of Westchester Community Health Center. The position involves assisting the Dentist during examinations and treatments, providing dental hygiene care, and engaging in oral hygiene educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Dentist during the examination and treatment of patients.
• Renders dental hygiene care of patients, including adult and child prophylaxis, periodontal scaling and root planning, sealant placement, and topical fluoride treatment.
• Assists in charting existing conditions and work needed.
• Keeps records of dental examinations, oral conditions, and treatment rendered.
• Engages in Oral Hygiene Educational Program.
• Conducts periodontal charting.
• Assists with the Recall System.
• Provides support with predetermination approvals when necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an approved school of Dental Hygiene.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and successful experience.
• Knowledge of the principles of clinical dental hygiene.
• Knowledge of medications related to dentistry.
• Familiarity with dental anatomy and pathology to the extent of being able to advise patients.
• Familiarity with the use of various dental instruments.
• Knowledge in handling and manipulating dental instruments and models.
• Familiarity with principles of nutrition to the extent of being able to advise patients concerning diets.
