About the position

3D Systems Healthcare is seeking a skilled Dental Laboratory Technician to work in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at the Seattle VA Medical Center. This role focuses on the fabrication of additive manufactured dental prostheses, utilizing advanced knowledge of oral anatomy and dental materials. The technician will be involved in the digital design and production of various dental appliances, ensuring high-quality outcomes for veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize CAD/CAM for the design and production of dental models, nightguards, dentures, custom trays, denture bases, crowns, and bridges.
  • Fabricate appliances such as night guards, splints, stents, sleep apnea devices, and orthodontic tooth position devices.
  • Create restorations that meet the esthetic, functional, and anatomic requirements of dental prescriptions.
  • Wax, invest, boil out, cure, and de-flask acrylic bases for partial and complete dentures.
  • Reproduce dentures with high precision and accuracy.
  • Remove excess acrylic from dentures, grind, and polish to simulate natural tissue contours.
  • Bend wrought wire clasps and bars according to dental prescriptions.
  • Operate digital dentistry equipment such as lab scanners and 3D printers.
  • Order and stock required laboratory supplies.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all laboratory equipment.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for HIPAA compliance and safety standards.
  • Assist in determining and maintaining dental lab case due dates via a digital management system.
  • Communicate with dentists and the dental team to meet care standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certification in dental lab technology or a related biotechnology profession is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a high-volume dental lab environment is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a dental technician role.
  • Solid background in CAD or CAM applications within the dental field, including digital denture design and crown and bridge design.
  • Proven expertise in specialized dental tech procedures.
  • Proficient use of dental laboratory materials such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, and porcelain.
  • Skilled operation of laboratory equipment including hand tools, dental lathes, engines, hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, and presses.
  • Competent handling of precision instruments like articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers.
  • Expertise in constructing various dental prosthetic appliances.
  • Familiarity with digital dental processes, including digital scanning and 3D printing methods.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality dental prosthetics.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with dentists and other dental professionals.

  • Experience in a high-volume dental lab environment is preferred but not required.
