About the position

The Dental Sterilization Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) at Lyster Army Medical Center, Fort Novosel. This position involves ensuring the cleanliness and sterilization of dental instruments and supplies, assisting dentists in patient treatments, and providing training to less experienced staff. The technician is responsible for maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in dental practices.

Responsibilities

• Receive, disassemble and inspect dental supplies, instruments and equipment.
• Select appropriate methods for sterilizing dental instruments, balancing time constraints with effectiveness.
• Test operation of sterilization equipment daily using chemical, mechanical, and biological monitoring systems.
• Assist dentists in providing treatments to patients.
• Provide training, mentoring, and orientation to less experienced staff on dental sterilization techniques.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience in dental sterilization, including inspecting and removing contamination from instruments and assisting in patient treatments.
• A four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a related field such as Dental Assistant or Dental Hygiene, or a combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
