About the position

The Dentist I position at La Clínica de La Raza is an on-call role focused on providing high-quality dental care to diverse communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. The dentist will be responsible for delivering comprehensive dental services, mentoring dental residents, and collaborating with a team to ensure exceptional patient care. This role emphasizes community service, cultural competence, and professional development within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Handle all aspects of general dentistry including oral exams, restorations, extractions, and prophylactic work.
• Treat oral diseases and confer with physicians regarding medical/dental problems.
• Assign patients to plaque control or other educational programs.
• Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues using dental instruments and x-rays to evaluate dental health and diagnose diseases.
• Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, or malformations of teeth and gums, providing preventive or corrective services.
• Write prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications.
• Formulate treatment plans for patients' dental needs.
• Advise or instruct patients on preventive dental care and treatment options.
• Design, make, or fit prosthodontic appliances and provide fabrication instructions to dental assistants.
• Mentor and supervise AEGD residents as a credentialed volunteer faculty member.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry.
• Possession of valid D.D.S. /D.M.D. degree.
• One year of experience in all phases of general dentistry.
• License to practice in the State of California.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) /CPR Certificate.
• Cultural competence working in diverse/low-income communities.

Nice-to-haves

• Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
• Experience with Practice Management System software.
