The Pediatric Dentist position at San Ysidro Health involves diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums in children and teenagers. The role requires examining patients to determine the nature of their conditions using dental radiographs, instruments, and other diagnostic procedures. The Pediatric Dentist will directly supervise care performed by pediatric dental residents, ensuring that health care, education, and outreach objectives are met while participating in community health programs. Essential functions include cleaning, restoring, extracting, and replacing teeth using various dental instruments and surgical equipment. The dentist will treat diseases of the oral cavity, perform surgeries on oral tissues when necessary, and provide prosthetic treatments as indicated. The role also involves designing and placing orthodontic devices to correct minor malocclusions and rendering comprehensive dental treatment in both clinical and hospital operating room settings. Preventive dental services, such as fluoride applications and sealants, will also be provided, along with education in oral health and hygiene. The Pediatric Dentist must maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and ethical standards for dental care, relevant drugs, and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids. They will review patients' health histories, consult with patients regarding their dental status, and document treatment plans according to departmental and regulatory guidelines. The position requires instructing and supervising up to six pediatric dental residents daily, participating in quality improvement activities, and ensuring high-quality care is delivered in a patient-centered manner. The dentist will report to the Associate Program Director/Dental Director and maintain a faculty appointment with the Pediatric Dental Residency Program.
