About the position

The Corrections Dentist provides essential dental care to incarcerated individuals, focusing on both preventative and restorative services. This role involves performing oral examinations, diagnosing dental conditions, and carrying out various treatments while educating patients on oral health. The dentist collaborates with the correctional healthcare team to integrate dental health into the overall medical care provided in the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive exams to diagnose and treat dental diseases, injuries, and malformations.
  • Restore teeth and construct dentures and other dental appliances.
  • Extract teeth and roots, and place implants as needed.
  • Suture facial lacerations within and around the oral cavity.
  • Prescribe medications for pain relief, infection control, and management of viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited dental school.
  • Licensed Dentist in the state of Michigan.
  • Skilled in patient assessment, management, and documentation.
  • Relates well to diverse patient needs and situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
  • Upholds integrity and confidentiality in all tasks.
  • Adaptable to organizational changes.
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
