About the position

UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a visionary Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the strategic planning, implementation, and management of information systems and technology. The CIO will play a crucial role in transforming the institution by leveraging technology to support its strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and fostering collaboration with academic partners. This position requires a dynamic leader who can navigate a complex environment and drive digital innovation while maintaining a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy and roadmap that aligns with UMass Chan's mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of enterprise information systems to support research, teaching, and administrative operations.
  • Continue the development of an IT organization with a strong customer service and problem-solving orientation.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships within and outside the organization through effective leadership, proactive collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Model a consistent commitment to UMass Chan's principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Lead the development and adoption of strategies for data management, analytics tools, and technology services.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand business needs and translate them into technology solutions.
  • Develop strong relationships with the Chief Research Informatics Officer, Chief Research Computing Officer, and CIOs at partner organizations.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of the company's technology systems and infrastructure.
  • Manage the implementation of IT services for new facilities.
  • Develop and retain competitive, high-performing technology talent.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies for data management and analytics tools.
  • Coordinate and provide training on technology-based products and services.
  • Drive digital innovation and transformation initiatives.
  • Identify and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency, productivity, and user experience.
  • Optimize the use of operating and capital resources.
  • Develop sustainable budget models for IT initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for technology upgrades and process improvements.
  • Promote the expansion of services to public partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field preferred.
  • Ten-plus years of progressive management experience in IT within large, complex organizations.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning and leading IT initiatives.
  • Experience managing complex IT infrastructure and systems.
  • Significant experience implementing new structures, systems, and processes.
  • Demonstrated successful experience adopting new processes and systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in healthcare or academic environments preferred.
