About the position

The Department Manager in General Merchandise at Barnes & Noble College is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the General Merchandise department, ensuring excellent customer service and effective management of the sales floor. This role requires a creative and adaptable individual who can assist customers with a variety of products while maintaining a clean and appealing store environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support all store operations and departments in partnership with the management team.
  • Manage daily activities of the selling floor to ensure the appeal of displays and availability of merchandise.
  • Maintain a presence on the sales floor to greet customers and provide assistance.
  • Use department-specific technology to answer questions and meet customer needs.
  • Maintain an appealing and clean sales floor according to merchandising guidelines.
  • Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
  • Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
