About the position

The Director of Accounting at Timber Ridge at Talus is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of our senior living community. This position requires a strong background in healthcare accounting, as the Director will manage the collection and recording of all financial data and transactions pertinent to the organization. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of general accounting functions and will be tasked with hiring, training, and managing the accounting staff to ensure efficient operations within the department. The Director will also assist in budget preparation and other financial functions, ensuring that all financial activities align with the organization's goals and compliance requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for organizing the accounting department to ensure proper accounting for all records. You will maintain a schedule for daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual routines as required. The Director will serve as a resource for other department heads, superiors, peers, and employees, facilitating communication and collaboration across the organization. Additionally, you will coordinate year-end activities, including audits, audit schedules, cost reports, and tax and informational returns, ensuring that all financial reporting is accurate and timely. The Director of Accounting will oversee all phases of monthly billings for apartments, assisted living, and health center services, processing necessary reports and ensuring accuracy in Medicare and Medicaid billings. Regular monitoring and reporting on past due accounts will be essential, as will the preparation of journal entries, supporting schedules, and financial statements. You will also be responsible for reconciling bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, monitoring payroll-related deposits, and ensuring compliance with tax filing requirements. This role is integral to maintaining the financial health of our community and supporting our mission of providing exceptional care and services to our residents.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes the accounting department to ensure proper accounting for all pertinent records.
  • Schedules and maintains daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual routines as required.
  • Hires, trains, and manages accounting staff.
  • Serves as a resource person for other department heads, superiors, peers, and employees.
  • Coordinates year-end activities including audits, audit schedules, cost reports, and tax and informational returns.
  • Directs or performs all phases of the monthly apartment, assisted living, and health center billings, processing all necessary reports.
  • Oversees submittal of all Medicare Part A and Part B and Medicaid billings, reviewing billings for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Monitors, reports regularly, and follows up on all past due accounts.
  • Prepares all journal entries, supporting schedules, and financial statements, performing analysis prior to distribution.
  • Reconciles all bank accounts to the bank statements, subsidiary journals, and to the general ledger, as well as other balance sheet accounts regularly.
  • Monitors payroll-related deposits and directs preparation and filing of returns for State, City, Federal, and FICA taxes.
  • Prepares and updates fixed asset and depreciation schedules and maintains other records for the Community.
  • Ensures that all miscellaneous monies are properly handled.
  • Prepares special reports upon request and regularly informs supervisor regarding the status of accounts and financial activity.
  • Prepares reports for and participates in meetings for the Resident Finance Committee.
  • Directs the preparation and distribution of payroll checks and maintains payroll records.
  • Maintains resident business files.
  • Responds to Resident and Family concerns and questions related to billing.
  • Calculates and processes move out, death, and return of advance deposit refunds.
  • Purchases short and long-term investments in accordance with the cash management policy and as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Healthcare Accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting functions.
  • Documented skills in leadership, supervision, and communication.
  • Minimum of three years hands-on experience with G/L, A/P, A/R, Payroll, and financial statement preparation.
  • Proficient in the use of business office machines, computers, spreadsheets, and word processing.
