About the position

The Department Manager (Operations) at Navy Exchange Service Command is responsible for managing sales activities within assigned retail and mall services departments. This role ensures that departments are well-stocked, attractively displayed, and adequately staffed to meet sales goals and service standards. The manager will oversee customer relations, merchandise management, and staff supervision to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Manage sales activities in assigned retail and mall services departments.
  • Ensure departments are fully stocked and merchandise is attractively displayed according to corporate Visual Merchandising standards.
  • Coordinate stock replenishment with backroom and procurement personnel.
  • Establish and implement an effective customer relations program to meet or exceed service standards.
  • Review merchandise stock structure and provide recommendations to Store Divisional Managers and Buyers.
  • Control scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels and payroll expenditures.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate assigned sales associates, ensuring they are aware of sales goals and store policies.
  • Conduct market trend comparisons and implement best practices as feasible.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide assistance in a prompt and friendly manner.

Requirements

  • Mid-level administrative experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Supervising experience
  • Retail sales experience (under 1 year)
  • 3 years of general experience in administrative, clerical, or retail sales roles
  • 1 year of specialized experience in merchandise controls, inventory management, or customer relations
