About the position

The Store Department Manager (SDM) at REI is a key member of the store management team responsible for coaching and motivating retail staff to achieve business and service goals. This role emphasizes dynamic leadership, team engagement, and a customer-centric culture, ensuring that the store meets its sales targets while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Plans, identifies, communicates, and delegates responsibilities to team.
• Handles training, coaching, recognition, and performance management.
• Directs the execution of core standards and overall visual direction.
• Drives sales through all channels by maximizing selling behaviors.
• Makes business adaptations to increase sales and service.
• Communicates key company strategies and changes to teams as needed.
• Recruits and develops diverse talent from within and outside the organization.
• Inspires a customer-centric culture by recognizing and rewarding team.
• Develops top performers and evaluates performance, providing coaching and appropriate feedback.
• Builds teams through effective employee development, involvement, and communication.

Requirements

• 3+ years of successful retail management experience (preferred).
• Enjoys communicating and building relationships, both inside and outside the organization.
• Open to feedback and other viewpoints in the spirit of supporting the business.
• Uses business understanding, innovative thinking, and sound judgment to solve problems.
• Makes solid recommendations by combining information from various sources.
