The Unit Secretary in the Emergency Services department at Huntington Beach Hospital plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and supporting the nursing staff in providing indirect patient care. This position is directly accountable to the Director of Emergency Room and indirectly to the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor. The Unit Secretary is responsible for transcribing physician orders from records, especially in situations where Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems are not in use. This includes ensuring that all orders are accurately noted and signed by nursing staff. In addition to transcription duties, the Unit Secretary prepares and compiles records for the Emergency Room, orders necessary supplies for the unit, and ensures that each patient's chart is complete with all required forms on a daily basis. The role requires a proactive approach to assist nursing staff with various indirect patient care duties, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency services team.
