About the position

The Unit Secretary in the Emergency Services department at Huntington Beach Hospital plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and supporting the nursing staff in providing indirect patient care. This position is directly accountable to the Director of Emergency Room and indirectly to the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor. The Unit Secretary is responsible for transcribing physician orders from records, especially in situations where Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems are not in use. This includes ensuring that all orders are accurately noted and signed by nursing staff. In addition to transcription duties, the Unit Secretary prepares and compiles records for the Emergency Room, orders necessary supplies for the unit, and ensures that each patient's chart is complete with all required forms on a daily basis. The role requires a proactive approach to assist nursing staff with various indirect patient care duties, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency services team. Responsibilities

  • Facilitates communication needs of the department.
  • Transcribes physician orders from records with notation and signature by nursing staff.
  • Prepares and compiles records on the Emergency Room.
  • Orders supplies for the unit.
  • Prepares and completes each patient's chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis.
  • Assists nursing staff with duties involving indirect patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Violence Prevention (BVP) training within 6 months of hire and maintain current.
  • Experience using computers for word processing and database management preferred.
