About the position

The Department Secretary position at Corewell Health is a part-time role that provides essential clerical and secretarial support to department staff and managers. The starting pay for this position is $16.73 per hour, which may vary based on experience. The role is primarily focused on administrative tasks that are crucial for the smooth operation of the department. The secretary will utilize various computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), to type, format, enter, edit, and proofread a variety of documents as requested by department personnel. In addition to document management, the secretary will be responsible for answering telephones, screening calls, prioritizing and redirecting them as necessary, and taking messages. The role requires the ability to handle routine inquiries independently and to monitor and maintain department supplies at appropriate levels. The secretary may also be tasked with inputting requisitions into the ordering system and managing the filing and organization of documents, ensuring that confidential information is secured. The position also involves participation in department initiatives related to Process Improvement, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service. The secretary may be asked to record data for these initiatives and assist with project administrative support, which could include typing agendas, taking meeting minutes, or inputting data into departmental databases. This role is vital in supporting the overall mission of Corewell Health to deliver personalized healthcare and improve health outcomes for patients and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical secretarial support to department staff and managers.
  • Type, format, enter, edit, and proofread documents using Microsoft Office software.
  • Answer telephones, screen calls, prioritize and redirect them, or take messages.
  • Handle routine inquiries and monitor department supplies.
  • Input requisitions into the ordering system as needed.
  • Organize, file, and electronically scan documents while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in department initiatives related to Process Improvement and Quality Assurance.
  • Record data for departmental initiatives and competencies.
  • Provide project administrative support, including typing agendas and meeting minutes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1 year of relevant secretarial or clerical experience is preferred.
  • Completion of business courses is preferred.
  • Valid AED Certification from the American Heart Association is preferred.

Nice-to-haves
