About the position

The Department Secretary position at Corewell Health provides essential clerical and secretarial support to department staff and managers. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the department by managing various administrative tasks. The secretary will utilize computer software, including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, to create, format, enter, edit, and proofread a variety of documents as requested by the department staff. This includes answering telephones, screening calls, prioritizing inquiries, redirecting calls, and taking messages, while also handling routine matters independently when possible. In addition to communication tasks, the Department Secretary will monitor and maintain department supplies, ensuring that par levels are met and may be required to input requisitions into the ordering system. The role also involves managing documents by faxing, collecting, organizing, filing, and electronically scanning them. Maintaining files of various natures, such as employee and vendor files, while securing confidential information is a critical responsibility. The secretary will participate in department initiatives related to Process Improvement, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service, and may be tasked with recording data for these initiatives, as well as for annual system-wide and departmental competencies. As needed, the Department Secretary may provide project administrative support, which includes typing agendas or meeting minutes and inputting other departmental data into databases. This position is full-time, with a standard work schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is located at the Dearborn Hospital site.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of relevant secretarial or clerical experience preferred.
  • Business courses preferred.
  • CRT-Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification may be required depending on the department.
