About the position

Interpret and explain student loan laws, rules, and regulations, and review and analyze newly enacted federal laws, rules, and regulations. Analyze ongoing program operations and recommend modification of policies and procedures for the Claims and Collections Section. Assist in liaison activities with the lender servicer and other agencies to pursue collection efforts. Test and assess the effectiveness of internal claims and collections processes. Understand and implement best practices regarding laws and regulations for: collection on loans, rehabilitation, student loan discharge, and judgments. This position monitors the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program portfolio, ensuring the contract servicer performs the duties necessary to complete the required due diligence of that portfolio. Assist with the Rehabilitation program. Research, respond to, and/or prepare responses to oral and written inquiries regarding student loan accounts. Perform other assignments as needed for the Student Loan Program (SLP) and other areas within the Office of Postsecondary Financial Planning.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • For Departmental Analyst 10: One year of professional experience.
  • For Departmental Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.
  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Military experience documentation (DD214 or other official military documentation) may be required for applicants with military service.
