About the position

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking a candidate for a position within the College of Science. This role involves designing and producing departmental art and copy layouts for various visual communication media, including books, magazines, newspapers, and electronic media. The position is grant-funded and subject to the availability of funds. The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is expected to start as soon as possible. The annual salary for this position is $38,000, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with Identity Guide established by University Communications.
  • Generates and produces printed and electronic promotional and informational materials including posters, brochures, newsletters, fliers, booklets, nametags, invitations, and visual aids for reports.
  • Prepares presentations, illustrations, or rough sketches of material.
  • Studies illustrations, photographs, and text to plan presentation of material, product, or service.
  • Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selects style and size of type, and creates sample layouts.
  • Maintains inventory; researches technology; evaluates proposals acts as vendor and printer liaison.
  • Acts as technical liaison; assists with technical issues of presentations; advises and troubleshoots information technology.
  • Presents samples to supervisor for selection and approval.
  • Reviews final layout and suggests improvements as needed, and presents final layout to supervisor for approval.
  • Prepares final layout for print on paper, film, disk, or other electronic format; checks proofs.
  • Reviews quality of final product before dissemination.
  • Designs, maintains, and updates websites; may maintain web server.
  • Assists in advertising strategy by researching and generating packets for distribution.
  • Maintains image resource files.
  • Complies with all State and University policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Two years of related experience to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with software including Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Figma, Fresco, Photoshop, Procreate.
  • Ability to adapt to work on simultaneous projects or tasks.
  • Good time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Cascade to provide support to the department.
  • Ability to post on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
