About the position

The Financial Examiner VI-VII: Large Bank Operations Specialist at the Texas Department of Banking is responsible for overseeing the examination and regulation of large banks. This role involves performing supervisory functions, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The examiner will focus on risk assessment, corporate governance, and audit reviews, while also mentoring less experienced staff and representing the department at industry events.

Responsibilities

• Perform examination functions including Interest Rate Risk and Current Expected Credit Losses Review.
• Review supervisory information from state and federal agencies and provide recommendations.
• Assist in investigations and participate in off-site monitoring of regulated institutions.
• Represent the Department at regulatory meetings and industry functions.
• Provide in-house training for examiners in their region or specialty.
• Serve as a leader and mentor for less experienced employees.
• Undertake special projects assigned by the Regional Director.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, or a related field.
• Minimum of six years progressively responsible experience in the regulation, examination, and analysis of financial institutions.
• Current or former bank examiner commissioned by an approved banking authority.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience evaluating banks' capital markets and risk management functions.
• Completion of a graduate school of banking.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
