About the position

The Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of W&M is a Program Manager position, within the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures Office. The Deputy is responsible for the successful management and oversight of a wide range of programs related to agricultural and/or weights and measures enforcement. This includes leading teams in the areas of pesticide regulation, pest prevention, plant protection, and commodity regulation, ensuring compliance with all applicable state and county laws. The Deputy will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategic plans, managing budgets, and building strong relationships with stakeholders, including growers, businesses, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee programs related to agricultural and weights and measures enforcement.
  • Lead teams in pesticide regulation, pest prevention, plant protection, and commodity regulation.
  • Ensure compliance with state and county laws.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Manage budgets.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders including growers, businesses, and the public.

Requirements

  • Four years of increasingly responsible agricultural and weights and measures inspection experience including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in agricultural, biological, or chemical science, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with major course work in physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Possession of all eight County Inspector/Biologist Licenses issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).
  • Possession of a valid license as a Deputy County Agricultural Commissioner or as a Deputy County Sealer of Weights and Measures issued by the State of California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of both licenses as a Deputy County Agricultural Commissioner and County Sealer of Weights and Measures is highly desirable.
  • Possession of a valid license as a County Agricultural Commissioner and County Sealer of Weights and Measures is desirable.
