About the position

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is seeking an Administrator VII - Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the Bureau of Water Resources (BWR). This senior management position involves overseeing high-priority activities and initiatives across the bureau, including policy development, regulatory oversight, and compliance management. The role requires coordination of various programs and initiatives, fiscal management, and communication with stakeholders, all aimed at ensuring effective water resource management and environmental protection.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee high-priority, cross-program policy initiatives and analyses, including climate change adaptation and regulation updates.
  • Manage regulation development milestones and oversee compliance with regulatory protocols.
  • Lead oversight of the Performance Partnership Agreement (PPA) for federal grant funding.
  • Coordinate communication and responses to inquiries from the Governor's Office, stakeholders, and legislators.
  • Oversee bureau-wide information management and operations support, including public records requests.
  • Manage compliance and enforcement policy and planning activities across the bureau.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least six years of professional experience in administrative, supervisory, or managerial roles.
  • Two years of experience in a project management, supervisory, or managerial capacity.
  • Knowledge of state and federal water-related statutes and regulations.
  • Strong management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate staff effectively.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional project teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups and balance stakeholder interests.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of scientific disciplines related to environmental protection.
  • Experience in fiscal management and budget oversight.
