About the position

The Deputy Associate Director in the Office of the Secretary of Transportation plays a critical role in coordinating national security policy matters and ensuring effective representation at National Security Council meetings. This position involves overseeing the development and execution of plans that balance transportation security with the nation's safety and economic needs. The ideal candidate will be a self-reliant individual capable of writing for leadership, coordinating with various partners, and managing departmental interagency initiatives related to national security and emergency preparedness.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a recognized authority for National Security Council coordination and policy matters.
  • Review classified meeting materials from the National Security Council and ensure proper handling and distribution.
  • Lead policy analysis and supervise staff coordination with National Security Council and equivalent organizations.
  • Develop and implement long-range plans and strategies for DOT policy goals related to national security and emergency preparedness.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for consideration.
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to GS-13, including reviewing and evaluating national security policy proposals.
  • Experience providing recommendations and briefing materials to senior leadership.
  • Experience representing the department at interagency meetings.
