About the position

The Deputy Athletic Director for Regulatory Affairs at the University of Memphis plays a crucial role in overseeing NCAA Division I compliance and internal operations within the athletics program. This position involves providing leadership in policy development, managing compliance responsibilities, and supporting student-athlete development. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Director of Athletics and University President, to ensure adherence to regulations and promote gender equity within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance related to general policy development and execution of Name Image and Likeness (NIL).
  • Advise the Director of Athletics, University President, and General Counsel on matters related to NIL.
  • Advise coaches, staff, and outside parties on current and future regulations/laws regarding NIL.
  • Assist in developing policies and strategies to advance gender equity within the Department of Athletics.
  • Serve as a central liaison to the University community and represent the institution at Athletic Conference and National Association Meetings as the Senior Woman Administrator.
  • Act as a member of the Athletics Executive staff and serve as the sports administrator for assigned sports programs.
  • Attend various Athletic Department events as directed.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the NCAA and Athletic Conference, overseeing governance-related activities and legal affairs.
  • Supervise Athletic Compliance staff to ensure adherence to NCAA/Conference compliance guidelines.
  • Oversee student-athlete services including sports medicine, mental health, nutrition, and strength and conditioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • J.D. degree preferred with NCAA Division I Compliance experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations at the Division I level.
  • Experience advising departments and sport programs on Name Image and Likeness matters.
  • Ability to multitask, be self-motivated, and highly organized.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and staff development capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supervising staff and/or coaches.
  • Knowledge of NCAA web-based software.
