About the position

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer (Administrator II) position at the MDH Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center is a critical role that supports the Chief Financial Officer in overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and asset management functions. This position is essential for managing the hospital's budget, which is approximately $67 million, and ensuring that financial operations align with the hospital's mission to provide forensic evaluation and psychiatric treatment to the State's most violent mentally ill population. The Deputy CFO will be responsible for maintaining financial integrity and compliance with state regulations while also contributing to strategic financial planning and decision-making processes. In this role, the Deputy CFO will assist in the preparation of financial statements, budget forecasts, and financial analyses. The position requires a strong understanding of financial management principles and practices, as well as the ability to monitor expenditures and perform expenditure audits. The Deputy CFO will also be involved in the management of financial systems and will need to be proficient in using various accounting software, including FMIS, ADPICS, R*STARS, and QuickBooks. Additionally, the role may involve supervising staff and providing guidance on financial matters, making supervisory experience a valuable asset for candidates. The Deputy CFO will work closely with other departments to ensure that financial resources are allocated effectively and that the hospital operates within its budgetary constraints. This position is not only about managing numbers but also about contributing to the overall mission of the hospital by ensuring that financial resources are used efficiently to support patient care and treatment programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer with all accounting and financial reporting duties.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Five years of administrative staff or professional work experience.
  • Substitution of 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of required experience (up to four years).
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work can substitute for the required experience.
  • Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer can substitute for the required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with budget projections at an agency and/or management of a budget over $50 million.
  • Experience with FMIS, ADPICS, R*STARS or a similar accounting system.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in monitoring expenditures and performing expenditure audits.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience.
