About the position

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) at Acero Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFOO) by managing financial planning, organizing, controlling, and analyzing the financial services of the organization. This position is integral to ensuring that Acero Schools meets its programmatic, strategic, and financial goals while adhering to federal, state, and local financial regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the oversight, direction, and management of all accounting and financial functions and controls.
  • Support all work streams in the finance function ensuring the integrity of financial systems, controls, and reporting.
  • Perform long-term and strategic planning to ensure the financial stability of Acero Schools.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement packages including journal entries, general ledger transactions, and financial reports.
  • Ensure all internal and external deadlines are met while completing assignments accurately and efficiently.
  • Supervise all finance personnel including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll/Benefits Accounting.
  • Collaborate with Principals, Directors, and Chiefs in financial operations and policies for their departments.
  • Evaluate current billing, accounting, and purchasing practices for continuous improvements.
  • Own the annual audit including preparation, oversight, and guidance of all audit documentation.
  • Oversee cash management across multiple bank accounts and act as a secondary contact with banking institutions.
  • Ensure timely receipt and accounting of deposit of funds.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree (or advanced degree) in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field; valid CPA license preferred.
  • At least 5 years experience in Education Finance, managing and leading a team focused on client/customer service.
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and laws governing public procurement.
  • Previous experience in education and/or nonprofit preferred.
  • Evidence of successful implementation of new processes and systems with limited direction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership and staff.
  • Proven track record of creating and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Ability to create and build systems to streamline administrative functions.
  • Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstration of sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data analysis capabilities.
  • Possess complete integrity and a high sense of personal and professional ethics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP standards and FASB.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
