About the position

The Deputy Chief of Staff-Acute Care at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the acute care clinical operations. This includes managing departments such as Anesthesiology, Pathology & Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Surgery, and the SAIL quality program coordination. The individual in this position will report directly to the Chief of Staff (COS) and will play a crucial role in ensuring that the acute care services are delivered efficiently and effectively. In this role, the Deputy Chief of Staff will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including members of the Chief of Staff office, the Deputy Chief of Staff - Ambulatory Care, service line leaders, and clinical staff. The focus will be on maximizing operational efficiencies across all acute care services, which is essential for providing high-quality patient care. The Deputy Chief of Staff will also be involved in strategic planning and implementation of initiatives aimed at improving clinical operations and patient outcomes. This position requires a strong leader who can navigate the complexities of healthcare operations while fostering a collaborative environment among diverse teams. The Deputy Chief of Staff will be expected to engage in continuous quality improvement efforts and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. Overall, this role is integral to the success of the acute care services at the VA Health Care System, contributing to the mission of providing exceptional care to veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee acute care clinical operations including Anesthesiology, Pathology & Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Medicine, and Surgery.
  • Coordinate the SAIL quality program to ensure high standards of care.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Staff office and other stakeholders to enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Engage with service line leaders and clinical staff to implement best practices in patient care.
  • Participate in strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in healthcare management, particularly in acute care settings.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and quality improvement processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a VA healthcare setting or similar government healthcare environment.
