About the position

Scale's Office of the CEO is seeking a highly motivated Deputy Chief of Staff to work on special initiatives, enhance cross-departmental communication, and align top-level business unit priorities and goals. This demanding role requires close collaboration with both the Chief of Staff and the CEO, making it essential for the candidate to possess a strong entrepreneurial mindset and a readiness to engage deeply in various operational areas. The Deputy Chief of Staff will be involved in strategic planning and processes that are critical to the company's mission of accelerating AI development. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects across Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Product Development, contributing to the overall business unit strategy and internal operating models. You will drive the planning processes at various intervals—weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually—ensuring that the company remains aligned with its strategic objectives. Your analytical skills will be put to the test as you perform analyses and provide recommendations that facilitate effective decision-making within business units. Additionally, you will own key operational rhythms and processes, such as leadership meetings and OKR reviews, which will involve preparing agendas, facilitating discussions, and documenting action items. As a thought partner to business unit leadership, you will proactively identify risks and opportunities that can shape products and improve internal operations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple work-streams while maintaining a strong focus on outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Chief of Staff and CEO to define business priorities and drive execution of key initiatives.
  • Work on special projects across various organizations, including Operations, Finance, Marketing, and EPD.
  • Help develop overall business unit strategy, business development priorities, and internal operating models.
  • Drive weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual planning processes for the company.
  • Drive prioritization and execution across the company.
  • Perform analyses and provide recommendations to facilitate effective business unit decision making.
  • Own key operational rhythms/processes, including preparing agendas, facilitating discussions, documenting notes/action items, and closing out follow-ups.
  • Act as a thought partner to business unit leadership, proactively identifying risks and opportunities.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience in management consulting, business operations, or other highly strategic, analytical, and operational roles within a rapidly growing company.
  • Strong executive communication skills, able to synthesize complex details into accessible and precise insights.
  • Empathetic interpersonal style.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects with technical and business team members, driving to high-quality insights and deliverables amidst ambiguity and tight timelines.
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple work-streams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong orientation towards outcomes, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
  • Proven ability to work and build relationships with a wide range of people, and influence cross-functionally without direct authority.
