This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Strategy, Policy and Plans (PLCY). The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an advisor to the Chief of Staff, coordinating initiatives and matters across the Office of Policy (PLCY), and managing certain functions in the PLCY Front Office. As a Deputy Chief of Staff, GS-0301-15, the incumbent will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and collaboration among various teams within the PLCY Front Office, including the scheduling team, Executive Secretariat, external engagement leads, and advisors to senior officials. The Deputy Chief of Staff will be responsible for identifying and elevating meetings and initiatives that require PLCY Front Office involvement, as well as delegating tasks to appropriate sub-offices or other DHS offices when necessary. In this role, the Deputy Chief of Staff will manage several key processes, including the scheduling and preparation of briefing materials for appointments and conferences, maintaining and disseminating policy correspondence and documents, and conducting research to prepare informational materials and decision memoranda for PLCY. The incumbent will also serve as a liaison with the Office of Legislative Affairs to ensure that the Under Secretary's legislative priorities are effectively communicated and advanced. This includes managing the development of Congressional briefing materials and ensuring timely responses to inquiries from Congressional staff. The position requires a high level of coordination and collaboration with various stakeholders to support the Chief of Staff and senior leadership in achieving the office's objectives.
