The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is responsible for investigating cases of individuals who die under various circumstances in New York City, including criminal violence, accidents, suicides, and unexplained deaths. The Deputy Chief of Staff plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief of Staff in strategic planning, project management, and addressing complex policy issues that affect the OCME. This position requires a high level of independent judgment and decision-making, as the Deputy Chief of Staff will work closely with executive staff and administration to ensure that the priorities of the Chief Medical Examiner are met and that mission-critical goals are achieved. In this role, the Deputy Chief of Staff will be involved in a wide range of activities, including developing and executing strategic initiatives and policies in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders. The Deputy Chief of Staff will coordinate cross-divisional projects, monitor key performance metrics, and oversee the development of the Mayor's Management Report. Additionally, the Deputy Chief of Staff will manage meetings with executive staff, external partners, and the Mayor's Office, ensuring that all necessary materials are prepared in advance. The Deputy Chief of Staff will also serve as the primary liaison for inter-agency meetings and working groups, advising on pending legislation that may impact OCME operations, and drafting necessary legislation. This position requires strong administrative support skills, the ability to oversee strategic initiatives from development to execution, and the capacity to improve organizational processes for efficiency. The Deputy Chief of Staff will represent the Chief of Staff in their absence and will be available 24/7 to address urgent agency matters. Furthermore, the Deputy Chief of Staff will facilitate the OCME Diversity Committee, promoting diversity and equity within the agency, and will perform other duties as assigned.
