About the position

The Deputy Chief of Staff for Harris County will play a pivotal role in transforming government operations under the leadership of County Judge Lina Hidalgo. This position involves close collaboration with the Chief of Staff and other key leaders to manage the County Judge's Office, support strategic initiatives, and ensure efficient operations across various county departments. The Deputy Chief of Staff will oversee critical projects, engage with team members, and represent the Judge's vision in various capacities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chief of Staff and other leaders to develop strategic plans and policies.
  • Oversee assigned divisions including Policy, Communications, and Operations and Administration Teams.
  • Drive the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and policy initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of county-wide initiatives and programs by coordinating with various stakeholders.
  • Participate in countywide hiring and other committees to represent the Judge's goals.
  • Evaluate and improve efficiency through system and process enhancements.
  • Continuously assess the needs of the County Judge's Office for smooth operations.
  • Work with leadership to define short- and long-term policy priorities.
  • Support emergency management activations as needed.
  • Step in for the Chief of Staff when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in relevant positions with increasing responsibility.
  • Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Experience in government or politics.
  • Experience managing an organization.
  • Adept at policy, politics, and relationships at various government levels.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear written language.
  • Exceptional management and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop and drive new initiatives and oversee projects to completion.
