About the position

The Deputy Chief of Staff position at the Indiana Department of Correction is designed to manage significant agency projects and initiatives, collaborating closely with leadership teams. This role serves as an advisor to the Chief of Staff and Commissioner, overseeing policy development, managing contract relationships, and tracking the success of agency initiatives. The position aims to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness while contributing to strategic workforce initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage substantial agency projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with agency leadership teams.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Chief of Staff and Commissioner.
  • Oversee policy development and implementation.
  • Manage contract partner relationships.
  • Track implementation and success of agency initiatives.
  • Coordinate policies, procedures, and program operations to improve service delivery efficiency.
  • Analyze cross-divisional issues and prepare recommendations.
  • Develop recommendations on cost containment and program improvement options.
  • Prepare and oversee implementation plans.
  • Assist with Division procurements and represent the Division in contract negotiations.
  • Monitor vendor compliance and manage contracts comprehensively.
  • Measure and evaluate project and program phase success.
  • Participate in Governing Body Meetings.
  • Assist with contract compliance.
  • Support program areas in implementing process and quality improvements.
  • Mediates conflicts, disagreements, and complaints.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, and evaluate employee performance.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree and 9+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's Degree and 11+ years of experience, or an Associate's Degree and 13+ years of experience, or at least 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Agency's Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills.
  • Passion for mental health and addiction treatment and drug prevention.
  • Knowledge of Project and Contract Management Methodologies.
  • Knowledge of social service organizations and their structure.
  • Knowledge of state governmental contracting procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish priorities and set deadlines.
