About the position

The Deputy Chief Officer (DCO) for Specialty Care serves as the deputy to the Chief Officer, overseeing program functions related to various medical specialties within the Veterans Health Administration. This role involves providing national leadership, developing strategic goals, and ensuring the delivery and assessment of healthcare services to veterans. The DCO is responsible for advancing healthcare innovations and improving outcomes across multiple specialties, including cardiology, oncology, and neurology, among others.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee program functions related to Specialty Care Services.
  • Provide national leadership and advisory responsibilities for various medical specialties.
  • Develop short and long-term goals aligned with VA and VHA missions.
  • Assess service delivery and outcomes in specialty care programs.
  • Lead initiatives to innovate and improve healthcare for veterans.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Extensive leadership experience in healthcare administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as Chief of Staff or equivalent in a healthcare setting.
  • Recognized expert in a specialty area with demonstrated leadership.
  • Distinguished Physician with national recognition in medical expertise.
