About the position

The Deputy Chief Operations Officer (Deputy COO) at Bat Conservation International (BCI) plays a crucial role in driving sustainable growth and operational improvements within the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, the Deputy COO will collaborate on strategic planning, oversee various operational projects, and enhance productivity across functions such as IT, human resources, and legal administration. This position is integral to BCI's mission of conserving bats and their ecosystems, ensuring effective management of resources and initiatives that support the organization's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the COO to develop and implement a new strategic plan for sustainable growth.
  • Build global business capabilities to support BCI's strategic plan execution.
  • Implement systems to measure BCI's impact and progress.
  • Provide strategic insights and thought partnership to the COO.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of priority operations projects.
  • Sponsor key projects led by the operations team and lead priority projects when needed.
  • Leverage data analytics for strategic decision-making.
  • Lead organizational technology efforts, overseeing IT platforms and systems.
  • Support the development of custom applications for strategy and project management.
  • Develop IT practices to improve staff productivity and collaboration.
  • Lead BCI's JEDI initiatives and embed these principles throughout the organization.
  • Partner with the People Team for staffing, workforce planning, and employee engagement.
  • Support change management strategies for organizational transformation.
  • Oversee legal and contractual matters, acting as the primary liaison with legal firms.
  • Support the Finance team in reviewing grants and contracts.
  • Manage BCI's business insurance and facilities for operational efficiency.
  • Research and manage legal aspects of innovative finance deals.
  • Collaborate with the Science team for effective monitoring and reporting of finance structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field; MBA or related master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in operational leadership, preferably in non-profit management.
  • Strong background in business strategy, analysis, design thinking, process improvement, and project management.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects that improve operating processes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to inspire others.
  • IT-savvy with experience in implementing digital tools and platforms.
  • Ability to leverage data for informed decision-making.
  • Knowledgeable in talent management, workforce planning, and employee engagement.
  • Experience in leading and implementing JEDI strategies.
