About the position

The Deputy City Manager of Community Services plays a crucial role in supporting the City Manager in overseeing the operations of the City. This position involves providing policy guidance, managing administrative activities, and fostering collaboration among City departments to achieve the City's goals. The Deputy City Manager is responsible for overseeing various programs, coordinating special projects, and ensuring effective communication and customer service within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the City Manager in decision-making and recommendations regarding City operations.
  • Provide policy guidance and manage administrative activities for the City Manager's Office.
  • Oversee assigned programs and administrative support functions, ensuring effective completion of department assignments.
  • Foster cooperative working relationships between City departments.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of the City's annual operating budget.
  • Support the City Manager with union contract negotiations.
  • Conduct research and analysis on budget and management issues.
  • Present information and recommendations to the City Manager and City Council.
  • Communicate with elected officials, advisory boards, and the public in a professional manner.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the City Manager.
  • Advocate for best practices in local government and assist in grant preparation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Administration or Business Administration preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration or Business Administration or closely related field required.
  • At least two years of administrative experience in municipal government.
  • Considerable knowledge of municipal government functions and organization.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Skill in preparing and administering municipal budgets.
