About the position

The Deputy Clerk is responsible for the administration of village business and managing the village treasury under the supervision of the Mayor, Board of Trustees, and Clerk/Treasurer. This role involves handling various business transactions in compliance with village and state laws, requiring considerable judgment and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees in the absence of the Clerk/Treasurer to present village business.
  • Receive and pay bills of the village after approval.
  • Answer correspondence and file records and papers.
  • Collect fees and account for monies received.
  • Prepare tax bills and collect taxes, as well as water and sewer payments.
  • Answer phone and provide routine information.
  • Sort, date stamp, and distribute mail and packages.
  • Greet clients and visitors.
  • Prepare, store, and retrieve lists and documents.
  • Prepare and maintain time records and payroll data.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of modern office technology, procedures, equipment, and business English.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases at an acceptable rate of accuracy and speed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Administrative experience preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $30,000 to $40,000 depending on experience.
