About the position

The Deputy Communications Director will play a crucial role in the communications team of U.S. Senator-elect Ruben Gallego, focusing on strategic messaging and outreach to diverse communities, particularly Latino populations. This position requires strong communication skills in both English and Spanish, and the ability to manage various communication efforts effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to develop and implement messaging strategies, particularly tailored to Latino communities.
  • Draft press releases, op-eds, speeches, talking points, and other materials in English and Spanish.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, reporters, and stakeholders.
  • Serve as an on-the-record spokesperson on issues specific to the Senator's priorities.
  • Assist with Spanish-language translations and ensure cultural sensitivity in all communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably in a political, government, or advocacy setting.
  • Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) is required.
  • Experience developing relationships with diverse media and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
