About the position
The Deputy Counsel for Civil and Legislative Matters plays a crucial role in the Office of Court Administration, providing legal advice and guidance on civil practice and legislative issues. This position involves significant responsibilities in the development and implementation of court policies, as well as assisting in the overall management of the Counsel's Office. The Deputy Counsel will analyze complex legal issues and advise court administrators, while also engaging in legislative negotiations and research.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and guidance to Unified Court System (UCS) personnel on civil practice, housing, and general legislative issues.
- Serve as counsel to the UCS Advisory Committee on Civil Practice and other advisory bodies as needed.
- Conduct legal and legislative research.
- Prepare and review legislative proposals and administrative rules and regulations.
- Engage in negotiations on legislation with the State Legislature and the Governor's Office.
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- A minimum of five (5) years of legal experience.
- Substantial State court civil litigation experience and knowledge of the State legislative process.

Benefits
- Competitive salary range of $156,000 - $176,375.
