About the position

Fort Bend County is seeking an experienced case manager, auditor, and clerk of court to join the County Clerk's Office. This position plays a crucial role in providing professional and quality customer service while performing clerical functions within the Courts Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, preparing, filing, recording, issuing, retrieving, transporting, and scanning all court documents. This role requires a thorough understanding of office policies and statutory parameters to prepare, file, assign, and docket new cases accurately. As the clerk of court, the individual will assist the judge in the courtroom, administer oaths, and execute all orders as required. Maintaining knowledge of relevant statutes and the ability to research legal issues is essential for this position. The case manager will also audit case events, activities, and caseloads by court, ensuring confidentiality and security of documents and data. Additionally, the role involves collecting fees, making change, reconciling, and balancing cash drawers, with personal accountability for any shortages. Customer service is a key component of this role, as the case manager will assist customers, provide information, and process requests in person, over the phone, and via mail. The position may also require participation in emergency management activities during local states of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. This multifaceted role is vital to the efficient operation of the County Clerk's Office and the judicial system in Fort Bend County.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, analyzes, prepares, files, records, issues, retrieves, transports and scans all court documents.
  • Prepares, files, assigns and dockets new cases based on office policy and parameters set by statute.
  • Serves as clerk of court, assists judge in courtroom, administers oaths, and executes all orders.
  • Maintains knowledge of statutes and must be able to research legal issues.
  • Audits case events, activities, and caseload by court.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of documents and data.
  • Collects fees and makes change; reconciles and balances cash drawers, held personally accountable for shortages.
  • Assists customers, provides information and processes requests in person, on the telephone and via mail.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED; One (1) year job related customer service or clerical experience.
  • Strong computer, typing (40 wpm) and data entry skills required.
  • Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including diplomacy and problem solving to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Ability to complete tasks while under pressure and within tight deadlines.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Overtime may be required.
