About The Position

The Deputy Court Clerk I position at the City of Gulfport involves providing clerical, cashiering, collection, courtroom, and administrative support for the Municipal Court. Requirements

  • High school graduate with one to two years of general clerical or business experience.
  • Completion of twenty semester hours of college or an Associate Degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to the court's computer software system.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in processing court records.
  • Basic knowledge of legal terminology and documents.
  • Strong grammar, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform data entry and type accurately at 30 wpm.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

  • Previous court and/or legal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Perform all court functions and operations within the court's case management system, including data entry and verification.
  • Import documents and scan various affidavits into the case management system.
  • Research and retrieve court case information from the case management system.
  • Electronically file and retrieve court cases, dockets, and affidavits.
  • Notify defendants and counsel of court appearances and prepare subpoenas.
  • Complete court docket preparation prior to court sessions and manage dockets during sessions.
  • Assist the judge in the courtroom and coordinate courtroom activity.
  • Perform duties related to civil domestic violence petitions and environmental code violations.
  • Handle cashiering, collections, warrants, jail, or courtroom clerk duties as needed.
  • Open and verify mail, record checks, cash, and other court-related documents.
  • Respond to record requests and certify documents as needed.
  • Answer telephone inquiries regarding Municipal Court operations.
  • Receive and route court documents between judicial chambers, prosecutor's office, and police department.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $28,478.25 - $31,430.15
