About the position

The Deputy Director serves as the assistant executive officer for the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (BMP), providing executive-level management of agency operations and ensuring the agency's statutory mandate and mission are carried out. This role involves developing policies, establishing priorities, and engaging in the legislative process while maintaining professional relationships with external partners. The Deputy Director is responsible for the efficient delivery of the agency's services and communications, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive management and leadership for the agency's operations.
  • Develop and implement policies and priorities for the agency.
  • Engage in the legislative process and maintain relationships with external partners.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of services and communications within the agency.
  • Oversee public relations and organizational strategies to achieve the agency's mission and goals.

Requirements

  • Four years of professional experience in public administration, organizational operations and management, or closely related organizational leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, organizational leadership, communications, or a related field (may substitute for one year of experience).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills to manage and motivate staff effectively.
  • Understanding of human relations, finance, and budget practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in healthcare management, public policy and administration, or organizational leadership.
  • Understanding of governing statutes and rules related to the agency's work.
  • Experience in strategic planning and commitment to equity and inclusion.
