About the position

The Deputy Director of the Office of Communications at the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) plays a crucial role in supporting the Director through campaign management, community engagement, and operational support. This position is responsible for leading a team of content managers to ensure effective messaging and brand awareness across various channels, while also managing community engagement activities and operational tasks related to procurement and communications materials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of content managers to create and maintain quality, strategy-driven, brand-appropriate messaging for all departments.
  • Provide operational support in the management of procurement activities.
  • Develop and distribute communications materials.
  • Create messaging strategies and campaigns.
  • Manage community engagement-related activities, including strategy development, event planning, and message development.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English/Writing or Political Science.
  • Three years of experience in Communications or Marketing.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least two years of experience in local, state and/or federal government in Communications.
