About the position

The Deputy Director of Marine Operations and Planning is a supervisory leadership role within the NC Ferry Division, responsible for overseeing three units and managing a fleet of 23 vessels operating along the North Carolina coast. This position involves planning, coordinating, and directing operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic leadership and resource management. The role requires direct supervision of superintendents and collaboration with various stakeholders, including the public and government officials.

Responsibilities

• Supervise three superintendents and manage daily operational schedules and budgets.
• Oversee the Vessel Asset Management unit to ensure navigability and compliance of workboats and ferry assets.
• Provide strategic leadership and program management to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.
• Inspect facilities and vessels for compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Coordinate maintenance of ferry channels and liaise with district superintendents.
• Address inquiries and complaints regarding ferry operations from the public and officials.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable field from an accredited institution.
• Four years of progressively responsible experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of professional engineering theory, techniques, practices, and procedures.
• Ability to apply knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing marine operations.
• Experience managing budgets and contracts within fiscal rules.
