About the position

The Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the development, maintenance, evaluation, execution, and updates to the City's Emergency Operations Plan and related plans. This role ensures the readiness of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and manages the city's radio communication system, enabling interoperability with various jurisdictions and agencies. The position also involves grant applications and budget management related to Emergency Management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, evaluate, and update the City's Emergency Operations Plan and related plans.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for readiness.
  • Complete Emergency Management grant applications and administration.
  • Provide input into the Emergency Management budget preparations.
  • Manage the City radio communication system and ensure interoperability with other jurisdictions.
  • Manage and program radio communication subscriber units and maintenance contracts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant Emergency Management experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Possess NIMS IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 Certifications or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Possess ICS-300 and 400 certifications or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Possess National Emergency Management Basic Academy Certification or ability to obtain within two years of employment.
  • Designation as a Virginia Professional Emergency Manager, or equivalent, or ability to obtain within three years of employment.
