About the position

The Deputy Federal Security Director (DFSD) plays a crucial role in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) by providing operational leadership for federal transportation security responsibilities at various locations. This position is responsible for overseeing TSA security activities within commercial airports, ensuring the safety and security of the traveling public while enhancing operational efficiency. The DFSD supports the Federal Security Director in managing airport security staff and operations, fostering a collaborative environment, and implementing security measures to protect transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Federal Security Director by providing day-to-day direction for Federal airport security staff and operations.
  • Ensure the deployment, management, and oversight of people, processes, and technology to improve security operations.
  • Instill trust, loyalty, pride, and teamwork among airport staff while ensuring performance accountability.
  • Advance the Threat Detection Blueprint efforts through assessment and maintenance of necessary tools.
  • Communicate clearly and collaboratively to ensure effective airport operations.
  • Establish an open learning environment and foster a collaborative organization.
  • Create a culture that supports an exceptional workforce through empowerment and coaching.
  • Manage risk assessments, tactical planning, and operational management for coordinated security services.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative environment within TSA and with stakeholders to manage security operations effectively.
  • Provide oversight and management of passenger, baggage, and air cargo security programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Completion of a favorable Tier 5 Background Investigation (T5).
  • Pass Drug Screening and subject to random drug tests.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-J Pay Band or GS-14 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing programs related to corporate security, aviation security, force protection, and law enforcement.
  • Experience directing staff and activities within established budget and staff levels.
