About the position

The Deputy General Manager of Maintenance of Equipment at TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of a fleet of passenger rail vehicles and managing mechanical shops and facilities across multiple locations in California. This role requires extensive knowledge of FRA regulations and a proven track record in implementing quality improvement programs within the commuter rail industry. The ideal candidate will lead a diverse team in a 24/7 operational environment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards while maintaining service levels.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance of a fleet of passenger rail vehicles.
  • Oversee the introduction, inspection, and maintenance of the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) fleet while maintaining the legacy fleet.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the Mechanical Department's Training Program.
  • Coordinate, organize, and maintain production schedules to meet service levels.
  • Manage the Life Cycle Maintenance Program for both EMU and legacy equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with FRA regulations and contractual requirements for fleet provision.
  • Schedule and manage a unionized workforce and administrative team members.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets for maintenance facilities and fleet.
  • Implement and oversee the Department's Warranty Management Program.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop mechanical staff.

Requirements

  • 10 years of relevant experience in managing passenger rail vehicle inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Experience with electrified trains is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements and work rules.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and track policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated team-building experience.
  • GCOR qualified or ability to become qualified within three months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices in rail maintenance.
