About the position

The Arena Group is seeking a seasoned Deputy Home and Garden Editor to elevate its home and garden strategy. This full-time position, based in New York, NY, offers a hybrid work model requiring three days in the office. The Deputy Editor will play a pivotal role in launching a new Home and Garden offshoot of the Parade.com brand while also integrating and enhancing existing Home and Garden sites. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Arena leadership to develop and execute a go-to-market strategy that drives audience growth and engagement. In this role, the Deputy Editor will be responsible for curating, sourcing, and editing content that resonates with current trends and influencers in the home and garden space. A strong understanding of SEO, social media, and video content is essential, as the Deputy Editor will need to shape and implement a content strategy that maximizes audience reach across various platforms. The position requires a creative yet strategic mindset, with a proven track record in building compelling home and garden content that attracts clicks and engagement. The Deputy Editor will oversee content planning, manage editorial calendars, and collaborate with various teams to ensure a cohesive strategy that pulls traffic from search engines, social media, and email campaigns. This role also involves hiring and managing freelance writers, approving content pitches, and optimizing existing evergreen content. The Deputy Editor must be adaptable, willing to learn about related topics, and able to work outside traditional hours to stay ahead of trends.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Arena Lifestyle leadership on setting the voice/narrative for home and garden brands.
  • Oversee content planning and strategy for all home and garden sites, including trending news and evergreen content.
  • Create a strong editorial calendar to drive audience growth.
  • Work with Lifestyle Content leadership and Audience teams to develop a traffic strategy across various platforms.
  • Leverage and grow SEO, referral, Discover, and Google News traffic, as well as social, video, and newsletter strategies.
  • Curate, assign, create headlines, and top edit for a new Parade site and DenGarden.com.
  • Hire/manage outsourced and freelance writers and resources.
  • Approve pitches and headlines submitted by writers, and top edit as necessary.
  • Manage/oversee optimization of existing evergreen content.
  • Write posts as needed.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7-8 years of post-grad editing and writing experience in an editorial team.
  • Experience with a digital home and garden vertical is a must.
  • Strong knowledge of creating compelling headlines for search and social media.
  • Ecommerce experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of digital content best practices, SEO, and audience development tactics.
  • Familiarity with analytical & research tools such as Google Analytics, Ahrefs, and comScore.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, and YouTube.
  • Excellent communication, organization, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Collaborative personality with the ability to develop strong relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
