About the position

The Deputy Legislative Counsel position at the Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) involves providing legal support to the Nevada Legislature. This role includes drafting legislation, conducting legal research, and preparing legal documents under the supervision of the Legislative Counsel. The position is essential for ensuring the legal integrity of legislative processes and providing counsel to legislative committees and agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting legislation and amendments to legislation
  • Preparing administrative regulations, legal opinion letters, and annotations of cases
  • Conducting legal research and drafting related memoranda
  • Codifying enacted bills into the Nevada Revised Statutes and approved regulations into the Nevada Administrative Code
  • Reviewing and preparing contracts
  • Providing litigation support
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Experience in legal writing and research
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines
  • Competency in legal analysis, reasoning, and writing
  • Understanding of discretion, nonpartisanship, and confidentiality
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
