About the position

The Deputy Manager of the Human Exploration Development and Operations (HEDO) Office at NASA plays a crucial role in leading the implementation of the Center's work portfolio related to human exploration and transportation projects. This position involves overseeing habitation systems development, advanced life support systems, payload and mission operations, and integration, particularly in relation to the International Space Station (ISS) and other exploration initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned programs, projects, and activities in support of NASA's human exploration objectives.
  • Oversee the development and formulation of habitation systems and provide engineering support to NASA's commercial human space flight endeavors.
  • Manage the development, operations, integration, sustaining engineering, and maintenance of Life Support Systems (LSS) for the ISS.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership in formulating planning and teaming with other NASA Centers.
  • Manage development of mission operations for flight and ground systems, including planning and preparation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strategic external partnerships consistent with the Agency's vision.
  • Serve as a programmatic and technical advisor to the Center Director and other senior managers.
  • Represent the HEDO Office on Agency actions, special studies, and governmental audits.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, and innovation within the organization.

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible supervisory/leadership experience, typically obtained over several years in positions at the GS-15 level or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing human spaceflight systems and/or aerospace flight systems.
  • Experience in all phases of new project formulation, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, engineering design, development, integration, and testing.
