About the position

The deputy prosecuting attorney prosecutes on behalf of the State of Washington and Grays Harbor County all felonies, gross misdemeanors, misdemeanors, probation violations in Superior Court and District Court, including infractions in Juvenile Court and traffic infractions through the District Courts, at the discretion of the duly elected Prosecuting Attorney. This includes evaluation, filing and preparation of the case through trial and sentencing and may require the handling of appeals.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecute felonies, gross misdemeanors, misdemeanors, and probation violations in Superior and District Courts.
  • Evaluate, file, and prepare cases for trial and sentencing.
  • Handle appeals as necessary.
  • Advise victims and witnesses of their rights within the criminal justice system.
  • Assist law enforcement agencies during investigations and prepare necessary legal documents such as search warrants and criminal complaints.
  • Work collaboratively with the Prosecuting Attorney and other deputies in the office.
  • Take over and handle all aspects of criminal prosecution with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Washington State Bar Association.
  • DPA I - minimum of one to three years experience as an attorney.
  • DPA II - minimum of three to five years of practice as an attorney, preferably in prosecution of criminal offenses.
