About the position

The Deputy Sheriff position involves performing protective service work to maintain peace, protect the public, and promote safety in Wright County. The role includes responding to emergencies, enforcing laws, conducting investigations, and building community relationships. Deputies may work in various units such as Patrol, School Resource, Narcotics, and Major Crimes Investigation, among others, under the general direction of a Sergeant.

Responsibilities

• Enforce laws and regulations, provide security, and develop positive relationships with the public.
• Respond to non-emergency and emergency calls, including accidents and medical emergencies.
• Conduct detailed investigations of accidents, criminal activities, and public safety incidents.
• Collaborate with team members to identify and prioritize community problems and develop solutions.
• Organize community resources to reduce crime and meet community needs.
• Maintain records of activities and prepare reports for investigators and prosecutors.
• Testify in court proceedings as needed.
• Maintain firearms and other issued equipment.
• Attend required training classes and complete necessary certifications.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Must have a valid MN POST license or be eligible for licensure by August 1, 2025.
• Associates/Technical degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related field.
• Ability to pass medical evaluation, physical assessment, psychological evaluation, and background investigation.
• Knowledge of law enforcement principles, local, state, and federal laws, and emergency medical response.
• Skill in assessing situations and implementing appropriate responses.
