About the position

The Dermatologic Surgery Research Assistant position at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) involves supporting clinical trials in the Department of Dermatology. The role includes responsibilities such as photography and videography of procedures, assisting with trial start-up activities, recruiting and screening subjects, and ensuring compliance with protocols. This position is essential for the successful execution of various dermatologic research initiatives under the supervision of experienced clinical trials investigators.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all photography and videography associated with procedures in the surgical area.
  • Edit and upload materials into patient charts and the photography database.
  • Assist providers with trial start-up activities, including correspondence with the OHSU Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Recruit, interview, and screen subjects for clinical trials.
  • Follow subjects throughout the trial and follow-up period, ensuring data collection and protocol adherence.
  • Report adverse reactions to trial sponsors and the IRB as appropriate.
  • Take vital signs and provide patient care as required by the protocol.
  • Perform inventory checks and maintain trial supplies.
  • Attend meetings as directed by clinical trials investigators.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by clinical trials investigators or the Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an Associate's degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in smaller spaces.
  • Strong organizational skills and creativity.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Competence in computer work (both PC and Macintosh) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other Science.
  • Previous clinical and/or research experience is highly preferred but not required.
  • Basic medical experience (e.g., taking vital signs) is a plus.
  • Experience with Epic Health Information System or internal OHSU electronic systems (eIRB, eCRIS) is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification, certified nurse's aide, or medical assistant certification is a plus.
