About the position

The Medical Assistant at Dermatology of Philadelphia plays a crucial role in providing patient care and supporting dermatology procedures, including Mohs surgery. This position involves a mix of clinical responsibilities and administrative tasks, requiring effective communication, attention to detail, and adherence to established protocols. The role is split between two locations, requiring flexibility in scheduling and a commitment to customer service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient clinical appointments and Mohs surgical appointments.
  • Complete Mohs Surgery Phone Consultations (MSPC) in the EMR in a timely manner.
  • Review Mohs surgery expectations with patients and answer all patient questions.
  • Ensure proper documentation is obtained prior to Mohs appointment.
  • Escort patients in and out of the clinic.
  • Interview patients, collect chief complaint, vital signs, and history.
  • Chart and scribe the patient encounter in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Document MIPS measures per office management protocols.
  • Set up tools and the patient for procedures and assist with common dermatology procedures/surgeries.
  • Enter proper medications into the EMR and transmit medications to pharmacy.
  • Prepare and clean medical instruments and exam rooms for patient encounters and/or procedures.
  • Communicate the dermatologists' plan to patients.
  • Inform senior medical assistants of any issues or concerns.
  • Properly handle all tissue specimens.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Completion of medical assistant training program from an accredited school.
  • MA Certification (Certified Medical Assistant).
  • Current CPR Certification (American Heart Association approved).
  • Required to have Dermatology Medical Assistant experience.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and the internet including email and Google documents.
  • Ability to interact and communicate well as a team and with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Modernizing Medicine's EMR and practice management system.
  • 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
